Restoration Projects

The Superior Rivers Watershed Association (formerly the Bad River Watershed Association) has completed a variety of restoration projects and assessments since 2002. While these take many forms, they are all in pursuit of maintaining and improving water quality in Wisconsin’s Lake Superior Basin.

Culvert Upgrades

The majority of our restoration projects have taken the form of culvert upgrade projects.

Tree Planting Projects

Trees are integral to healthy soil and reducing erosion. Because one of our watersheds’ greatest challenges is sedimentation, this process of “slowing the flow” using trees is integral in our region.

Stream Assessments

In 2009, we conducted several stream assessments to identify points of concern in the Bad River Watershed. Today, our friends in agencies such as USDA Forest Service, Wisconsin DNR, and Trout Unlimited conduct regular stream assessments and culvert inventories which are available online.

Altamont Road Bluff Stabilization

Sometimes streams and rivers need more assistance than just stream road crossings like culverts. In 2017, we undertook a massive project to stabilize an eroding bluff and restore the channel on the Marengo River along Altamont Road.
