Tree Planting Project
The Superior Rivers Watershed Association developed the Cooperative Tree Planting Project in 2017 to support an ambitious tree planting and environmental education program for local students. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative provided the funding through the US Forest Service while the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources donated over 247,500 tree seedlings for the project. The planting sites included:
- 120 acres of the Fourmile Creek unit of the South Shore Lake Superior Fish and Wildlife Area near Washburn
- 56 acres of the Lost Creek State Natural Area near Cornucopia
SRWA and the DNR are developing plans for protecting these seedlings from grazing deer for the 2020 and 2021 season.
