Special Projects

We are dedicated to our mission of promoting and protecting our clean water resources in the Lake Superior basin. Sometimes these promotion and protection projects take different forms than our traditional monitoring, restoration, and water quality education, but are equally vital to creating stewardship in our region.

The Marengo River Watershed Partnership Project 9-Key Element Action Plan

The Marengo River is one of the most impaired waterways in the Lake Superior Basin, contributing to considerable sedimentation in our watershed. In 2013, we published an EPA certified Nine Key Element Action Plan to coordinate the many organizations, groups, and stakeholders towards protecting and improving the Marengo River Watershed. In 2023, we revised and re-certified this plan.

Bad River Partnership Wild and Scenic River Designation Initiative

The Superior Rivers Watershed Association and a dedicated committee of volunteers are actively seeking Partnership Wild and Scenic River designation for the Bad River watershed.

The Lake Superior Collaborative

Our staff actively engage with the Lake Superior Collaborative, a network of organizations working in partnership to coordinate protection, restoration, & climate resilience efforts in the Wisconsin portion of the Lake Superior watershed.

T+E Species Search

The T+E Species Search group is interested in surveying and documenting the presences of threatened and endangered species the Bad River Watershed. We’re supporting this work by holding materials on our website and promoting local gatherings to do this surveying in community.
