Volunteer Macroinvertebrate Sorting and Identification

Join us to sort and identify macroinvertebrate specimen collected by volunteers from local rivers and streams this fall. This process is key to us understanding what the macroinvertebrates can tell us about the water quality of the stream they were collected from. With the help of experts we identify specimen down to the family level. Each family of macroinvertebrate has a different environmental stress tolerance. We use these tolerance assessments to equate water quality.

Equipment and guidance will be provided.
