Beaver Hollow Open House
August 24, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Join us for a pre-party field trip to Beaver Hollow for an open house to celebrate our 2025 Karen Danielson Award winners, Kathy and Mark Wendling.
The open house will kick off with a short presentation from Kathy about all the great work the Friends of the North Pikes Creek wetlands have done to steward their watershed and make it accessible to our community. Afterwards we will spend time connecting to Beaver Hollow; check out neat footage from trail cams or go on a short tour of the trail.
Every year the Karen Danielson Award goes to members of our community who demonstrate exceptional service or leadership in advancing SRWA’s mission to promote and protect clean water in WI’s Lake Superior Basin.
Kathy and Mark have been members of SRWA since 2011 and have been long-term water quality volunteers. The Wendlings have been key officers and members of the Friends of the Pikes Creek Wetlands which formed in 2012 and recently in 2019 expanded to include the Beaver Hollow recreational and educational area, which is fully ADA compliant.
The Wendlings have been committed water quality volunteers since 2016 until about 2023. They assembled a team that covered four sites along North Pikes Creek. On top of collecting our monthly water quality data the Wendlings have worked with SRWA to install temperature loggers up and downstream of beaver ponds in Beaver Hollow to study how their dams affect temperature. They recently produced final information regarding temperature in Beaver Hollow and contributed this to our Watershed Waves Newsletter. They remain enthusiastic partners while they pursue their own work at Beaver Hollow.
Kathy and Mark’s work with BRWA/SRWA and with the Friends of the Pike’s Creek Wetland directly reflect that of committed watershed stewards working to create and support other watershed stewards, with an impressive emphasis on accessibility.
